What We Believe

What we believe as Christians is just as relevant today as they were 2000 years ago, we must know what that is. Below you will find what International Fellowship holds to be true, simply click on each + to open up a new section.

God
There is only one true and living God who is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.  He reveals Himself as the eternally existent Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with distinct personal attributes yet without any difference in nature, essence, or being.  The Father is the head of the Godhead, and the kingdom shall be delivered to him.  Jesus is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man, the promised Messiah, born into this world of the virgin Mary.  Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a sacrifice for humankind, was bodily raised from the dead, ascended into heaven where he intercedes for us, and will one day return in bodily, visible form to overthrow sin and judge the world.  The Holy Spirit is the fully divine Spirit of God, the one sent from God to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, of judgment, and to regenerate and cleanse from sin. The Spirit baptizes, seals and indwells every believer at the moment of salvation and teaches, guides, comforts, empowers, and develops the character of Christ in believers as they are filled with and walk in the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit also distributes to believers spiritual gifts that are used to build up the body of Christ (Genesis 1:1Psalm 66:7Daniel 4:1732Isaiah 45:5-12211 Corinthians 15:241 Timothy 2:52 Peter 1:17John 1:15:178:5810:30-3920:28Philippians 2:5-11Colossians 2:9Hebrews 1:1-14Revelation 1:8John 14:16-17Acts 5:3-4Hebrews 9:14John 1:3Colossians 1:16-17Revelation 19:6)
Satan and Sin
Satan is a personal devil who with his angels carries on the work of evil in this world. Sin is basically rebellion against God, and the end of sin is eternal separation from God (Isaiah 14:12-15Ezekiel 28:12-15Ephesians 6:12Colossians 2:15Matthew 8:162910:1Mark 1:27Luke 11:201 Peter 5:82 Corinthians 4:411:14-151 Timothy 4:11 John 4:4Revelation 12:4-91 John 3:4).
The Church
The Holy Spirit immediately places all people who put their faith in Jesus Christ into one united spiritual body, the Church, of which Christ is the head.  The church is also expressed in local autonomous bodies of believers in Christ who covenant together to follow the teachings of the New Testament in doctrine, worship, and practice. It is the function of the Church to fulfill the Great Commission until Christ returns.  The only two church ordinances are baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which are symbols of salvation. Only those who have believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior should be baptized, and immersion is the only Biblical mode of baptism. (Matthew 16:13-1928:16-20Acts 2:42-479:3120:281 Corinthians 11:17-12:31Ephesians 2:19-20Colossians 1:18Hebrews 12:231 Peter 2:9-10; Revelation 2-3).
Angels
Angels are real spirits created by God.  They continually worship and serve God and also minister to believers. Satan and demons are fallen angels.  However, Jesus defeated Satan on the cross and believers have authority over him today (Genesis 3; Isaiah 6; Isaiah 14:12-17Ezekiel 28:11-19Ephesians 6:10-18; Hebrews 1; 1 Peter 5:82 Peter 2:41 John 3:8Jude 6; Revelation 12).
The Family
God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society.  Marriage is the unity of one man and one woman in covenant relationship for a lifetime.  The husband and the wife are equal before God, since both are created in God’s image.  A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it.  He has a God-given responsibility to provide, to protect, and to lead his family.  A wife is to submit herself graciously and voluntarily to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ.  In other words husbands and wives are equal persons with distinct, God-given roles.  They are to work together to manage the household and nurture the next generation.  Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.  Parents are to raise their children with a godly example, loving discipline, wise teaching, and proper affection.  Children are to honor and obey their parents (Genesis 1:26-282:15-253:1-20Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Psalm 127, 139:13-16; Malachi 2:14-16Ephesians 5:21-336:1-4Colossians 3:18-21Titus 2:3-51 Peter 3:1-7).
The Bible
The Holy Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God and is completely without error as originally given by God through human writers.  It is authoritative and sufficient to guide us in every aspect of life and faith (Exodus 24:4Deuteronomy 4:1-2Psalm 138:2Matthew 5:17-18Mark 12:2636Luke 6:46-49Luke 24: 2744John 5:39-4710:3316:1317:17Acts 1:16Acts 15:15Romans 15:41 Thessalonians 2:132 Timothy 3:16-17Hebrews 4:12James 1:222 Peter 1:16-21Revelation 22:18-19).
People
God created human beings in his own image.  God created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation worthy of love, dignity, and respect regardless of matters like age, race, gender, or class.  Because of the fall of man and woman into sin, the image of God in people is distorted.  Consequently, all people are born into sin and are sinners by nature and conduct, thus inheriting both physical and spiritual death and the need for redemption. Only by the grace of God through Jesus Christ can they experience salvation and fulfill the creative purpose of God (Genesis 1:26-302:718-223; Psalm 1; 8:3-6; 32:1-5; 51:5; Matthew 16:26Romans 1:19-323:10-18235:6,12,197:14-251 Corinthians 1:21-31Ephesians 2:1-22Colossians 1:21-22).
Salvation
Jesus is the only way to God.  Salvation comes only through a faith relationship with Jesus Christ, the Savior, as a person repents of sin and receives Christ’s forgiveness and eternal life. Salvation is instantaneous and accomplished solely by the power of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. This salvation is wholly of God by grace on the basis of Christ’s life, death and resurrection, not on the basis of human works. All the redeemed are secured in Christ forever (Psalm 51:5Isaiah 59:264:6John 1:123:165:2410:2814:6Acts 3:194:12Romans 3:9-4:85:16:238:1-1710:9-1013Galatians 2:16-213:10-144:4-7Ephesians 1:142:1-38-104:301 Peter 1:18-19Hebrews 7:25Jude 24).
Spiritual Growth
Sanctification (a setting apart unto God) occurs positionally when a believer is placed into Christ at the moment of salvation, continues progressively as the believer grows spiritually throughout the rest of life on earth, and is completed permanently and perfectly when the believer is glorified in heaven.  It is the calling of every believer to live a holy life, love God and other people, grow spiritually, use his or her God-given spiritual gifts for the glorification of Christ and edification of the body, and to be a witness for Christ in the world (Matthew 22:34-4028:16-20John 17:17Romans 8:18-3012:3-81 Corinthians 12:72 Corinthians 3:187:1Ephesians 4:17-245:271 Thessalonians 5:23Hebrews 10:10141 Peter 1:15-164:10-112 Peter 3:18).
Christ's Return and Resurrection
God will bring the world to its appropriate end in His own time and in His own way. At that time, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth. Christ will judge both the saved and unsaved at the final resurrection of all men, just and unjust. Those who have trusted Christ will be raised to receive a glorified body and dwell forever with the Lord. Those who have not trusted in Christ will be raised to spend eternity in hell, the place of everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46Luke 16:19-31John 5:29John 14:3Acts 1:111 Thessalonians 4:13-181 John 3:13; Revelation 19-22).
